Method

Preparation of Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half if desired for shorter sticks or leave them whole.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in the third.

  3. 3

    Bread the Cheese

Coat each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat for all cheese sticks.

  4. 4

    Freeze the Cheese Sticks

Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.

Preparation of Marinara Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 7

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Frying the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 8

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 9

    Fry Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

  3. 10

    Drain and Serve

Use a slotted spoon to remove the sticks and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with marinara sauce.
