Cooking Pasta

Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt to the water.

Add Macaroni
Add 2 cups of elbow macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 7-8 minutes.

Drain the Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

Add Flour
Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to create a roux.

Gradually add 2 cups of milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of paprika to the cheese sauce, stirring well to combine.
Combining

Mix Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained pasta to the cheese sauce, stirring to coat the macaroni evenly.

If using, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and transfer the mac-n-cheese mixture to a baking dish.

Sprinkle 1 cup of bread crumbs and 0.5 cups of grated parmesan cheese evenly over the top.
