Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it is hot enough for baking the biscuits.
- 2
Prepare Baking Sheet
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent the biscuits from sticking.
Making the Dough
- 3
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- 4
Cut in Butter
Add the cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes, to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 5
Add Buttermilk
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix; it's okay if the dough is slightly sticky.
Shaping and Baking
- 6
Turn Out the Dough
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. With floured hands, gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together, being careful not to overwork it.
- 7
Roll Out the Dough
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to about 1-inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits, placing them on the prepared baking sheet.
- 8
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
Serving
- 9
Cool and Serve
Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet. Serve warm with butter, honey, or jam.
