Onion Rings

Method

Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined. Gradually add cold water while whisking until you achieve a smooth batter.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess batter to drip off before placing it in the hot oil.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Fry the onion rings in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain the Onion Rings

Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Chipotle Ranch Sauce

  1. 7

    Prepare the Sauce

In a blender or food processor, combine ranch dressing, chipotle peppers, lime juice, garlic powder, and salt. Blend until smooth and well combined.

  2. 8

    Adjust to Taste

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning, adding more chipotle for heat or more ranch for creaminess as desired.

  3. 9

    Serve

Transfer the chipotle ranch sauce to a serving bowl and serve alongside the hand-battered onion rings.
