Method

Preparing the Batter

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Melt the Chocolate

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and semisweet chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Add the dry ingredients to the melted chocolate mixture. Then, add the eggs and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.

Baking the Cakes

  1. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.

  2. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft.

  3. 7

    Rest and Serve

Remove from oven and let the cakes sit for 1 minute. Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and tap gently to release the cake. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
