Method

Chicken Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a bowl, mix buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breast and ensure it is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading

In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Bread the Chicken

Remove chicken from marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Waffle Preparation

  1. 6

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

  2. 7

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk and melted butter.

  3. 8

    Make the Batter

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.

  4. 9

    Cook the Waffle

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Pour the batter into the waffle iron and cook until golden brown, about 5 minutes.

Caramel Syrup Preparation

  1. 10

    Make the Caramel Syrup

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add brown sugar and heavy cream, stirring constantly until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. Allow to simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

Assembly

  1. 11

    Serve the Dish

On a plate, place half a Belgian waffle. Top with the fried chicken breast. Drizzle with caramel syrup and serve alongside a cup of mixed greens salad.
