Method
Biscuit
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Buttermilk
Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
- 5
Shape the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Cut into circles using a biscuit cutter.
- 6
Bake Biscuits
Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Chicken
- 7
Prepare Chicken
In a shallow bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 8
Dredge Chicken
In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Dip each chicken breast in the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture until well coated.
- 9
Heat Oil for Frying
In a large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the chicken breasts.
- 10
Fry Chicken
Fry the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Gravy
- 11
Brown Sausage
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into small pieces.
- 12
Make Roux
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- 13
Add Milk
Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Season with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- 14
Simmer Gravy
Let the gravy simmer for a few minutes until it reaches your desired consistency. Adjust seasoning to taste.
