Mozzarella Sticks

Method

Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese

Cut the fresh mozzarella cheese into 1/2 inch thick sticks, about 3 inches long. Place the cheese sticks on a plate and freeze for about 30 minutes to firm them up.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second bowl, and mix the bread crumbs with Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Mozzarella Sticks

Remove the cheese sticks from the freezer. First, dip each stick in the flour, coating evenly. Next, dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned bread crumbs.

  4. 4

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the breaded mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and the cheese begins to ooze. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 5

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the olive oil and add minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.

  2. 6

    Cook the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir well and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  3. 7

    Serve

Once the marinara sauce is ready, serve it warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks for dipping.
