Sides (Choose Two)

Method

Preparing the Steak

  1. 1

    Tenderizing the Steak

Using a meat mallet, pound the beef tenderloin or round steak until it is about 1/2 inch thick. This will help tenderize the meat.

  2. 2

    Breading the Steak

In one bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk. In another bowl, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Dip each piece of steak first into the flour mixture, then into the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour mixture for a double coating.

Frying the Steak

  1. 3

    Heating the Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Frying

Carefully place the breaded steak in the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels.

Making the Gravy

  1. 5

    Creating the Roux

In the same skillet used to fry the steak, leave about 1/4 cup of drippings and add 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Whisk over medium heat until it becomes a light brown color.

  2. 6

    Adding Broth

Slowly add the beef broth while continuously whisking to avoid lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 7

    Seasoning the Gravy

Stir in salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to taste.

Preparing the Sides

  1. 8

    Mashed Potatoes

Prepare the mashed potatoes according to package instructions or boil peeled potatoes until tender, then mash with butter and milk.

  2. 9

    Green Beans

Steam or boil the green beans until tender, about 5-7 minutes, and season with salt and pepper.
