Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patties

In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently to combine, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and form them into patties, making them slightly larger than the burger buns to account for shrinkage while cooking.

Cooking the Burgers

  1. 3

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until browned.

  2. 4

    Flip and Add Cheese

Flip the patties and immediately place two slices of American cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Assemble the Burgers

  1. 5

    Prepare the Onions

Finely chop the medium onion. If desired, sauté in a small amount of oil until translucent.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, spread a tablespoon of special sauce. Place a cheese-topped patty on top, followed by chopped onions and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
