Melt the Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler) and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a separate bowl, separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Beat the egg yolks with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until pale and creamy.

Combine Chocolate with Egg Yolks
Once the chocolate mixture has cooled slightly, pour it into the egg yolk mixture and mix until well combined.

Chill the Mousse
Spoon the mousse into serving dishes and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
Whipped Cream

Prepare the Whipped Cream
In a chilled mixing bowl, add the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form, about 2-4 minutes.

Serve
Once the mousse has set, serve it topped with a dollop of whipped cream. Optionally, you can garnish with chocolate shavings or berries.
