Prepare the Bread
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Tear the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and place in a large mixing bowl.

Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet mixture over the torn bread. Gently fold in the bread until it is thoroughly soaked. If using, add raisins or pecans at this stage.

Bake
Transfer the mixture into a greased baking dish and spread it out evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Whiskey Sauce

Prepare the Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the brown sugar and continue to cook until the mixture is bubbling.

Add Remaining Ingredients
Carefully stir in the heavy cream and whiskey. Allow it to simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
