Mixing
- 1
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass or old-fashioned glass in the freezer or fill it with ice and water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz aged rum, 0.5 oz cognac, 0.5 oz orange curaçao, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz honey syrup, 0.25 oz allspice dram, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
- 3
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well-chilled (the outside of the shaker should feel cold and slightly frosted).
- 4
Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass with ice water, empty it now. Add a single large ice cube to the chilled rocks glass.
- 5
Strain
Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer (to catch small ice shards and any pulp).
Garnish & Finish
- 6
Express the oils from the orange peel: hold the peel over the cocktail with the outer peel facing down and give it a sharp squeeze to release the oils, then rub the peel around the glass rim and drop it into the drink.
- 7
Skewer the Luxardo cherry on a cocktail pick and rest it across the rim or drop it into the drink. Optionally add one more dash of Angostura bitters onto the top of the drink for aroma.
- 8
Serve immediately. The Crown is a spirit-forward, aromatic sipper—sip slowly to appreciate the balance of aged rum, cognac richness, citrus brightness, warm allspice, and honeyed sweetness.
