Method
Fruit Bowl
- 1
Select and Prepare Fruit
Choose about 4 cups total of seasonal fruit such as melons (cantaloupe, honeydew), stone fruit (peaches, nectarines, plums), apples, pears, kiwi, grapes, or pineapple. Rinse all fruit under cool running water. Hull strawberries, peel and slice kiwi, peel and core apples/pears if desired, pit and slice stone fruit, remove rind and core from pineapple and cut into bite-sized pieces. Halve or quarter grapes if large.
- 2
Prepare Berries
Rinse the mixed berries gently in a colander and drain well. If using strawberries, slice them into halves or quarters depending on size. Pat berries dry with paper towels to avoid excess moisture in the bowl.
- 3
Toss and Dress
In a large mixing bowl, combine the prepared seasonal fruit (about 3 cups) with the mixed berries (about 1 cup). Drizzle 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice over the fruit to brighten flavor and prevent browning. If fruit is underripe or you prefer a touch of sweetness, drizzle 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup and gently toss once to coat evenly. Taste and adjust—add up to another teaspoon of honey if needed.
- 4
Add Zest and Mint
If using, grate 1 teaspoon fresh orange or lime zest over the fruit and gently fold in 4–6 small fresh mint leaves torn or chiffonaded. The zest and mint are optional but add aromatic brightness.
- 5
Chill (optional)
For best texture and flavor, cover and refrigerate the fruit bowl for 15–30 minutes before serving. If serving immediately, proceed to plating.
- 6
Optional Extras
- 7
Yogurt: Place 2–3 tablespoons of yogurt into each serving bowl or serve on the side for guests to add themselves.
- 8
- 9
Toasted Coconut: Warm a small skillet and toast coconut flakes for 1–2 minutes until golden; watch closely to avoid burning. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon per serving.
