Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add the activated yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Prepare Filling Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine minced chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, chopped green onions, minced garlic, minced ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Assemble and Steam

  1. 7

    Divide and Shape Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal pieces (about 12). Roll each piece into a circle about 4 inches in diameter.

  2. 8

    Fill Buns

Place a spoonful of the chicken filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch to seal, forming a bun.

  3. 9

    Prepare Steamer

Line a steamer basket with parchment paper. Place the buns in the steamer, leaving space between each to allow for expansion.

  4. 10

    Steam Buns

Bring water to a boil in a pot, then reduce to a simmer. Place the steamer over the pot, cover, and steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes.

  5. 11

    Serve

Remove the buns from the steamer and serve warm, with additional soy sauce or dipping sauce if desired.
