Method
Cooking Sticky Rice
- 1
Soak the Rice
Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- 2
Steam the Rice
Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice for about 30-40 minutes until it becomes tender and sticky.
- 3
Prepare Coconut Sauce
In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over low heat until the sugar dissolves, but do not boil.
- 4
Combine Rice and Sauce
Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a mixing bowl and pour 3/4 of the coconut sauce over the rice. Stir gently to mix and allow it to sit for about 15-20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Preparing Mango
- 5
Slice the Mango
While the rice is soaking or steaming, peel the ripe mangoes and slice them into thin strips.
Serving
- 6
Plate the Dish
To serve, place a scoop of the sticky rice on a plate, arrange the sliced mango on the side, and drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce. Sprinkle sesame seeds or mung beans on top for garnish.
