Bagel Dough

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Add the flour, salt, and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Bagels

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball, then poke a hole in the center to form a bagel shape. Let them rest for another 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Boil the Bagels

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. 5

    Add Toppings

In a small bowl, combine poppy seeds, sesame seeds, dried garlic, dried onion, and sea salt. Sprinkle generously on top of the boiled bagels before baking.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the bagels for about 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
