Method

Shrub Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Orange Shrub

Start by washing the oranges thoroughly. Using a zester or a grater, zest the skin of the oranges, making sure not to include the white pith, as it can be bitter. Place the zest in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Juice and Combine

Juice the oranges and add the juice to the bowl with the zest. Next, add the granulated sugar and mix well until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let this mixture sit for about 30 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Vinegar

After the mixture has rested, add the apple cider vinegar to the bowl. Stir well to combine. Transfer the shrub mixture to a clean glass jar or bottle and let it steep in the refrigerator for at least 3 days to develop the flavors.

Drink Assembly

  1. 4

    Prepare Glasses

Take two tall glasses and fill each with ice cubes, about 1 cup of ice per glass.

  2. 5

    Mix the Drink

In each glass, add 1/2 cup of the prepared orange shrub followed by 1/2 cup of fresh grapefruit juice.

  3. 6

    Top with Soda

Carefully pour 1 cup of grapefruit soda into each glass over the shrub and juice mixture. Stir gently to combine.

  4. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Garnish each drink with a slice of orange on the rim. Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing 'Shrubbin Shoulders'.
