Method
Biscuit Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) to ensure it's hot enough for baking the biscuits.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Cut in Butter
Cut the cold unsalted butter into small cubes and add it to the dry mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 4
Add Buttermilk
Pour the buttermilk into the flour mixture. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix. The dough should be slightly sticky.
- 5
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Fold the dough over itself a few times for layering, then pat it down again to about 1-inch thick. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 6
Bake the Biscuits
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.
- 7
Cool and Serve
Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with fresh jams and local honey.
