Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Gently mix until just combined; it's okay if there are a few lumps. Do not overmix.

Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Lightly grease it with a little butter or oil.

Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the hot griddle for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and the edges look set, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
