Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Ground Beef

In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onions are translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Spices and Beans

Stir in the chili powder, canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, beef broth, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Chili

Reduce the heat to low and let the chili simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Hot Dog Preparation

  1. 5

    Grill the Hot Dogs

While the chili simmers, preheat a grill or grill pan over medium heat. Grill the foot-long hot dogs until heated through and slightly charred, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Buns

Lightly toast the poppy seed buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes until warm and slightly crispy.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Chili Cheese Dogs

Place each grilled hot dog in a toasted bun. Spoon a generous amount of chili over each hot dog.

  2. 8

    Add Toppings

Top each chili cheese dog with a handful of Fritos, a drizzle of Cheese Whiz, and a sprinkle of diced onions.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve immediately while hot, with any additional toppings on the side.
