Pizza Dough
Method
Pizza Assembly and Baking
- 1
Prepare the Dough
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- 2
Prepare the Sauce
In a saucepan, combine 1 can (28 oz) of crushed tomatoes, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp dried oregano, 1 tsp salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 3
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
- 4
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions. Roll out each portion into a 12-inch circle on a floured surface.
- 5
Assemble the Pizza
Place the rolled-out dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese and any desired toppings.
- 6
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the oven (or onto the hot pizza stone). Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 7
Slice and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then slice into wedges and serve hot.
