Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Place a large ice cube or ice sphere into an old-fashioned glass and set aside to chill the glass while you mix.

2

Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass or shaker filled with plenty of ice, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.75 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz amaro, 0.25 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur, and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

3

Stir to chill and dilute

Stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) until the outside of the mixing glass is very cold and the liquid is properly diluted (about 20–25% dilution by weight).

4

Strain

Using a julep or hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared old-fashioned glass over the large ice cube.

5

Garnish and finish

Express an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down over the glass and giving it a sharp bend to spray the oils onto the surface; then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Optionally, add a Luxardo cherry on a pick. Serve immediately.
