Method

Prepare

1

Brew espresso

Brew a fresh single shot (about 1 oz) of espresso and allow it to cool slightly (hot espresso will melt ice too quickly and thin the cocktail). Ideally let it rest 2–3 minutes until warm, not boiling.

2

Make simple syrup (if needed)

If you don't have simple syrup ready, combine equal parts sugar and hot water, stir until sugar dissolves, cool before using. Use 0.5 oz for this recipe.

Shake & Strain

3

Add vodka, cooled espresso, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker.

4

Add a generous amount of ice to the shaker (about 1 cup).

5

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 15–25 seconds. Vigorous shaking is important to chill, dilute slightly, and create a foamy crema from the espresso.

6

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice chips and ensure a silky texture.

Garnish & Serve

7

Garnish with three coffee beans placed on the surface in a triangular arrangement.

8

Serve immediately. Recommended serving temperature: well chilled, with a light espresso crema on top.
