Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the russet potatoes and cut them into small pieces, approximately 1-2 inches in size.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the cut potatoes and boil for about 10-15 minutes or until they are fork-tender. Drain and let cool.

  3. 3

    Mash Potatoes

Once cooled, place the boiled potatoes in a mixing bowl and mash them until smooth. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix thoroughly.

Breading

  1. 4

    Prepare Breading Mixture

In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour and cornstarch. In another small bowl, beat the egg and mix it with milk.

  2. 5

    Coat Potato Mixture

Take a small amount of the potato mixture and form it into small tater tot shapes. Dip each tater tot into the egg mixture, then roll it in the flour-cornstarch mixture until fully coated.

Frying

  1. 6

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Fry Tater Tots

Carefully place the coated tater tots into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
