Method

Preparing the Burger

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the lean ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until combined. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness.

Preparing the Bun and Toppings

  1. 3

    Grill the Buns

While the patties are cooking, melt the butter in a separate skillet or on a griddle over medium heat. Place the burger buns cut-side down onto the skillet and grill until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 4

    Fry the Onions

In the same skillet, add oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the sliced onions and sauté until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Assemble the Burger

Once everything is cooked, place a beef patty on the bottom half of each grilled bun. Top with caramelized onions. Place the top half of the bun on the burger to complete.

  2. 6

    Serve

Serve the burgers hot, with your choice of sides, such as fries or a salad.
