Method
Breadstick Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, garlic powder, and dried Italian herbs.
- 3
Combine Mixtures
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with olive oil. Mix until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape Breadsticks
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch long stick.
- 7
Second Rise
Place the shaped breadsticks on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
- 8
Bake Breadsticks
Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly.
