Method
For the Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Clean and cut the calamari into rings. Make sure to remove any skin and innards.
- 2
Make the Breading Mixture
In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Bread the Calamari
Dip the calamari rings into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Then coat them in the breading mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with marinara sauce.
For the Marinara Sauce
