Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Combine base spirits and modifiers

Add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice and 0.25 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker.

  2. 2

    Add bitters and ice

Add 2 dashes of orange bitters and a handful of cubed ice (approx. 1 cup) to the shaker.

  3. 3

Shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds until the shaker feels cold to the touch.

  4. 4

Fill a chilled Collins or large wine glass with fresh ice. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass, leaving about 1.5–2 oz of headspace for sparkling water.

  5. 5

Top with 3 oz chilled sparkling water or club soda. Stir gently once to combine; do not over-stir, to preserve effervescence.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

Express the oils of a lemon wheel over the drink by pinching it skin-side down above the surface, then drop the wheel into the glass.

  2. 7

Slap the mint sprig lightly between your palms to activate aroma and place it against the inside rim of the glass as garnish.

  3. 8

Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick. Optionally offer extra lemon on the side.
