Preparation

Preparation

1. Chill glass

Place a pint glass or tulip glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill with ice water to chill while preparing the cocktail components.

2. Combine gin and modifiers

In a mixing glass or small shaker, add the gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and optional orange bitters. Add a few ice cubes and stir briskly for about 10–15 seconds to lightly chill and dilute the gin mixture.

3. Add blue curaçao

Add the blue curaçao to the gin mixture and give it one gentle stir to incorporate; this will add color and a hint of orange flavor.

4. Strain and pour

Discard ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Strain the gin + curaçao mixture into the glass.

5. Top with wheat beer

Carefully and slowly pour the chilled wheat beer down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and create a layered, bright blue hue. Pour until the glass is nearly full (about 12 fl oz).

6. Garnish and serve

Gently stir once with a bar spoon if you want a uniform color, or leave as is to appreciate the layered look. Garnish with a lemon wheel or twist on the rim. Serve immediately.
