Method
Mojito
Prepare glass and mint
Place 10 fresh mint leaves into a sturdy highball glass or a mixing tin. Add 2 teaspoons granulated sugar and 0.75 oz fresh lime juice to the leaves.
Muddle
Gently muddle the mint, sugar, and lime juice with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon. Press just enough to bruise the mint and release oils — avoid shredding the leaves to prevent bitterness. The sugar should begin to dissolve into the lime juice.
Shake or stir
If using a shaker or mixing tin, cap and shake briefly (5–8 seconds) to chill and combine. If prepared directly in the serving glass, use a long spoon to gently stir for about 10 seconds to combine and chill.
Top with soda
Strain (optional) into the serving glass over fresh ice if you muddled in a shaker; if you muddled in the serving glass, simply top the drink with 2 oz club soda. Gently lift the mint leaves as you pour so the aroma rises.
Garnish and serve
Give the drink one gentle stir to incorporate the soda. Garnish with a lime wedge or wheel and a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately with a straw.
