Canned Soft Drinks (stock per serving)

Optional Serving Additions

Method

Chill and Serve

  1. 1

Chill cans (if not already cold)

Place the desired number of cans in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to chill. If you need them faster, submerge cans in an ice-water bath for 10–15 minutes or wrap in a damp paper towel and freeze for 15–20 minutes — monitor closely to avoid freezing/rupturing.

  2. 2

    Prepare glass or cup

If serving over ice, fill a glass about halfway with ice cubes (≈1 cup). If serving straight from the can, no glass is necessary.

  3. 3

    Open the can

Hold the can upright on a stable surface. Pull the tab to open the can. For safety, point the opening away from your face. If the can has recently been shaken, open slowly to let gas escape gradually.

  4. 4

    Pour (optional)

If using a glass, tilt the glass slightly and pour the soda slowly down the side to reduce foam. Stop pouring once the glass is filled to your desired level leaving space for a lemon/lime wedge if using.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Add an optional lemon or lime wedge to the rim or squeeze lightly into the drink for a citrus accent. Insert a reusable straw if desired. Serve immediately while cold.

  6. 6

    Storage of opened can

If you don’t finish a can, cover the opening with a cling film or reusable lid and refrigerate upright. Consume within 24 hours for best carbonation and flavor.

Serving Suggestions and Pairings

  1. 7

Coca-Cola, Dr Pepper, and Root Beer pair well with hearty, savory foods like burgers and fried chicken. Sprite and Fanta Orange complement spicy or citrus-forward dishes. Diet Coke is a lower-calorie option that works with most meals. Brisk Iced Tea pairs well with sandwiches, salads, and barbecue.

  2. 8

For floats: add 1–2 scoops of vanilla ice cream to a tall glass and pour 1 can (12 oz) of Root Beer or Coca-Cola slowly over the ice cream for a classic float. Serve with a spoon and straw.
