Filet Mignon

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Method

Filet Mignon

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steaks

Remove the filet mignon steaks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steaks

Pat the steaks dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  3. 3

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.

  4. 4

    Cook the Steaks

Add the seasoned steaks to the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  5. 5

    Add Butter and Thyme

In the last minute of cooking, add butter and fresh thyme to the skillet. Spoon the melted butter over the steaks as they finish cooking.

  6. 6

    Rest the Steaks

Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  1. 7

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into equal-sized chunks. Place them in a pot and cover with cold water.

  2. 8

    Boil the Potatoes

Add garlic cloves to the pot. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 9

    Drain and Mash

Drain the potatoes and garlic. Return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

  4. 10

    Serve

Serve the garlic mashed potatoes alongside the filet mignon.
