Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Cranberries
Rinse the fresh cranberries under cold water and remove any stems or damaged berries.
- 2
Zest and Juice the Orange
Using a zester or grater, zest the orange to gather about 1 tablespoon of zest. Then, cut the orange in half and juice it to yield about 1/4 cup of orange juice.
Cooking
- 3
Combine Ingredients
In a large saucepan, combine the rinsed cranberries, granulated sugar, brown sugar, water, orange zest, orange juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- 4
Cook the Cranberry Sauce
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- 5
Cool and Store
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the cranberry sauce cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve.
