Method
Base & Muddling
- 1
Prepare glass and mint
Place 8–10 fresh mint leaves into a sturdy highball or Collins glass. Add the lime wedges (2 wedges, about 1/2 lime) to the glass on top of the mint.
- 2
Muddle gently
Using a muddler, press down and twist gently on the mint and lime wedges 6–8 times. The goal is to release the mint oils and lime juice without shredding the mint into tiny bits—avoid over-muddling to prevent bitterness.
Sweeten & Build
- 3
Add sweetener
Pour 3/4 oz simple syrup over the muddled mint and lime. Stir gently once or twice to combine and help dissolve any pulp.
- 4
Add spirits
Add 2 oz white rum to the glass. Stir briefly (3–4 seconds) to integrate the rum with the sweetened mint-lime base.
Ice & Top
- 5
Add ice
Fill the glass with crushed ice up to near the top (about 1 cup). Crushed ice chills and dilutes quickly for the proper Mojito texture.
- 6
Top with soda
Pour about 2 oz club soda over the ice. Gently stir from the bottom once or twice to lift mint leaves through the drink and evenly distribute flavors.
Garnish & Serve
- 7
Slap the reserved mint sprig between your palms once to release aromatics, then place it as a garnish on top. Optionally add an extra lime wedge on the rim. Serve immediately with a straw.
