Base and Spirits

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Chill glass and prepare garnishes

Place a mule mug or highball glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice to chill while you assemble ingredients. Reserve a lime wheel and measure out pomegranate seeds and mint.

Mixing

  1. 2

    Combine spirits and citrus

In a cocktail shaker (no need to add ice if using chilled glass and ginger beer; optional), pour 2 oz vodka, 1 oz pomegranate liqueur (or 1 oz pomegranate juice), 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. If you prefer a slightly more diluted, colder drink, add a handful of ice to the shaker and briefly shake 6–8 seconds to chill and combine.

  2. 3

    Prepare glass

If you chilled the glass in the freezer, remove it and fill it with fresh ice (crushed or cubes) to about 3/4 full.

  3. 4

    Strain and top

Strain the shaken mixture (or pour if not shaken) into the prepared glass over ice. Top with 4 oz chilled ginger beer. Gently stir once or twice to integrate the ginger beer without flattening the bubbles.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

    Finish and present

Float 1 tbsp pomegranate seeds on top, garnish with the lime wheel on the rim and a sprig of fresh mint if using. Optionally toss a few pomegranate seeds into the drink for color. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.
