Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Kataifi

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). In a large baking dish, melt the butter and evenly coat the bottom. Pull apart the kataifi dough and spread it evenly in the dish. Drizzle melted butter over the kataifi and bake for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

  2. 2

    Make the Custard

In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined. Gradually stir in the hot milk into the egg mixture to temper it. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until it thickens. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Honey Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine the water and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Allow to cool slightly.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Ekmek

Once the kataifi is baked and cooled, pour the custard over the kataifi evenly. Drizzle the honey syrup over the top. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

  5. 5

    Serve

Before serving, top with whipped cream and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. Cut into squares and enjoy!
