Baklava

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Nut Filling

In a bowl, mix the finely chopped walnuts with cinnamon and set aside.

  2. 2

    Layer the Phyllo Dough

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter before adding the next.

  3. 3

    Add the Nut Mixture

Spread half of the walnut mixture evenly over the phyllo layers.

  4. 4

    Continue Layering

Add 4 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter. Add the remaining walnut mixture, and top with another 8 sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

  5. 5

    Cut the Baklava

Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.

  6. 6

    Bake the Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.

  7. 7

    Prepare the Honey Syrup

While the baklava is baking, combine honey and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  8. 8

    Drizzle the Syrup

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled honey syrup evenly over the hot baklava.

  9. 9

    Serve

Allow baklava to cool completely before serving. Serve with Nutella on the side for dipping.
