Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Muddle the Sugar

In an Old Fashioned glass, place the sugar cube. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters on top of the sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to crush the sugar cube until it dissolves, creating a syrupy base.

  2. 2

    Add Whiskey

Pour 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey over the muddled sugar mixture in the glass.

  3. 3

    Add Ice

Add 2 or 3 ice cubes to the glass, allowing the drink to chill while maintaining its strength.

  4. 4

    Garnish

Using a knife or a peeler, cut a strip of orange peel. Twist the peel over the drink to release its oils and then place it in the glass. Optionally, add a maraschino cherry for a classic touch.

  5. 5

    Stir and Serve

Gently stir the drink with a bar spoon or a straw to combine all the ingredients. Serve immediately and enjoy your Old Fashioned.
