Toppings (optional)

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and add the macaroni pasta. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, approximately 7-9 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly but not browned.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 4

    Incorporate Cheese

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth.

  4. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to the cheese sauce, stirring to combine.

Combine and Serve

  1. 6

    Mix Pasta and Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and the cheese sauce. Stir until all the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 7

    Optional Topping

If desired, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the mac and cheese in a baking dish, top with bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. Bake for 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

  3. 8

    Serve

Spoon the mac and cheese into bowls and enjoy hot!
