Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Batter

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk together until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Water to Batter

Gradually mix in the cold water into the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should be thick enough to coat the onion rings.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and float immediately.

  2. 5

    Batter the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off before frying.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil, being sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Serve

Once the onion rings are cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
