Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixture

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin, which is normal.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cake

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat the unsalted butter until creamy. Add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the desired consistency is reached. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  2. 9

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Serving

  1. 10

    Serve with Ice Cream

Cut the chocolate cake into slices and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
