HOUSE FAVORITES

  1. 1

    Prepare the pan

Line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Melt butter and chocolate

In a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, melt the butter and chopped dark chocolate until smooth. Stir occasionally until glossy.

  3. 3

    Sweeten and combine

Remove from heat; whisk in granulated sugar until fully incorporated and glossy.

  4. 4

    Add eggs and vanilla

Let the mixture cool slightly, then whisk in eggs one by one until fully blended. Stir in vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine dry ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and chipotle powder.

  6. 6

Fold dry into wet and add heat

Stir the dry ingredients into the chocolate mixture just until combined. Mix in adobo sauce until evenly distributed.

  7. 7

    Add nuts (optional)

If using walnuts, fold them in now and distribute evenly.

  8. 8

    Bake and cool

Pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 squares.
