Method

Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Once the yeast is activated, add it to the flour mixture along with the melted butter (cooled) and the egg. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Dough

After rising, punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Cover the loaf with a damp cloth again and let it rise for another 30-60 minutes, until puffed.

  8. 8

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the loaf for about 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. Serve with Chef’s Butter Selection, Togarashi, and Maldon Salt.
