Method
Making the Latvian Bacon Buns
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
Knead the Dough
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, kneading until a smooth dough forms. This should take about 10 minutes.
Let the Dough Rise
Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
While the dough is rising, cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy. Remove the bacon and chop it into small pieces.
Shape the Piroshki
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into small balls (about the size of a golf ball). Roll each ball into a circle and place a spoonful of filling in the center.
Seal the Buns
Fold the dough over the filling and pinch to seal well. Place on a greased baking sheet.
Second Rise
Cover the buns and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake the Buns
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the buns for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve
Allow the buns to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Latvian Bacon Buns warm!
