Coffee Brew

Method

Coffee Brew

  1. 1

    Measure and grind

Weigh or measure about 0.06 cups (roughly 10–12 grams) of whole coffee beans for an 8 oz cup. Grind to a medium-coarse consistency for a pour-over or drip, or medium-fine for a press or automatic drip, depending on your brew method.

  2. 2

    Heat water

Heat 8 oz (about 240 ml) of filtered water to 195–205°F (90–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.

  3. 3

    Brew

Using your chosen method (pour-over, drip machine, French press, Aeropress), add the ground coffee to the brewer and pour or run the hot water through the grounds evenly. For pour-over: bloom with ~30–40 ml water for 30–45 seconds, then pour remaining water steadily until you reach 8 oz. Total brew time: 2.5–4 minutes for pour-over/drip, 4 minutes for French press, 1–2 minutes for Aeropress (depending on recipe).

  4. 4

    Serve

Once brewed, immediately pour the coffee into a pre-warmed cup to preserve temperature and flavor.

Optional Add-ins

  1. 5

Add 2 tbsp milk or cream if desired and stir.

  2. 6

Add 1 tsp sugar or preferred sweetener and stir until dissolved.

  3. 7

For a flavored touch, add 1 tsp vanilla extract or sprinkle 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon on top and stir gently.
