Soft-Serve Base
Swirl Flavor (optional single-flavor add-in)
Toppings (choose any two in practice; quantities given for two toppings)
Serving Supplies
Method
Prepare Soft-Serve Base
- 1
Check and mix base
If using a commercial soft-serve liquid mix, refrigerate until cold (2–4 °C). If the mix is thicker than machine specs, thin with up to 200 ml cold whole milk until it reaches the manufacturer's recommended viscosity. If using an unsweetened base, add 1 tablespoon sugar and whisk until dissolved.
- 2
Load machine
Pour the prepared soft-serve mix into the machine's hopper. Follow the soft-serve machine's fill-level guidelines and safety procedures.
- 3
Set machine temperatures
Set the machine to a serving consistency (typically -5 to -7 °C in the freezing cylinder). Allow the machine to run and reach stable dispensing texture (about 15–30 minutes depending on machine).
Add Swirl Flavor (optional)
- 4
Prepare swirl
If a flavored swirl is desired, warm the chosen syrup or purée slightly so it is pourable (do not exceed 40 °C). Keep it in a squeeze bottle or small pitcher for controlled layering.
- 5
Layering technique
To create a swirl in the cone or cup, dispense a small amount (5–10 ml) of the flavored syrup into the container first. Immediately follow with a small soft-serve dollop, then another stripe of syrup. Repeat alternating soft-serve and syrup while dispensing the soft-serve in a steady spiral to create visible swirls of flavor through the twisti.
Dispense Classic Twisti
- 6
Dispense two flavors (if machine has dual heads)
If your soft-serve machine has two flavor hoppers (vanilla + flavor), set it to 'twist' mode so both flavors swirl together. Dispense by holding the cone or cup about 2–3 cm under the nozzle and steadily pulling down while rotating the container to form a tall, even spiral approximately 9–12 cm high (serving size).
- 7
Dispense single-machine swirl
If you only have a single-flavor machine but want a visual twist with a syrup, use the layering technique from the previous section and shape the soft-serve into a spiral as you dispense.
Apply Toppings (choose two per serving)
- 8
Topping timing
Apply sauces immediately after dispensing while the soft-serve surface is adhesive. For dry toppings (sprinkles, cookie crumbs, nuts, chips), hold the cone or cup over a shallow bowl, sprinkle the topping generously on one side so it adheres to the soft-serve, rotating as needed to coat. For fresh fruit, gently press slices into the side of the swirl so they stick.
- 9
Sauce drizzle
For chocolate or caramel sauce, drizzle 15–30 ml over the top and sides in a spiral. If using both sauces, alternate thin drizzles so the two visibly lace the surface.
- 10
Finishing
If using crunchy toppings (nuts, cookie crumbs), add them last so they remain crisp. Place the completed Classic Twisti into a paper holder or serve immediately in the chosen cone/cup with a spoon or napkin.
Serving and Storage
- 11
Serve fresh
Serve the Classic Twisti immediately for best texture and appearance. Soft-serve will soften quickly at ambient temperature (within 10–15 minutes).
- 12
Store leftover mix
Keep any remaining soft-serve mix refrigerated and covered. Use according to the manufacturer's recommended shelf life (typically 24–72 hours once opened). Store sauces and toppings in airtight containers at appropriate temperatures (refrigerate fruit, keep sauces sealed).
