Base ice cream order

Tools / serving

Method

Prepare serving and extra scoop

  1. 1

    Check space and temperature

Inspect the existing cup, bowl, or cone to confirm there is room for an extra scoop. If the existing ice cream is very hard, let it sit at room temperature for 30–60 seconds to soften slightly so the scooper can glide through without cracking the container or breaking the cone.

  2. 2

    Warm the scooper

Run the ice cream scooper under warm tap water for 5–10 seconds and shake off excess. Warming the scooper reduces sticking and helps form a smooth scoop.

  3. 3

    Form the extra scoop

Press the scooper firmly into the additional pint or tub in a twisting motion to create a full round scoop. If using a spoon, dig in with the bowl of the spoon and shape a round mound by rotating the spoon under the portion. Level the bottom against the rim of the tub or a flat surface to release a clean scoop.

  4. 4

    Place scoop on existing order

Gently place the extra scoop onto the top of the existing scoop(s) in the cup, bowl, or cone. For cones, hold the cone steady and nestle the extra scoop so it sits securely without toppling. If stacking in a cup or bowl, press slightly so the new scoop makes good contact and won’t slide off.

Add optional toppings (if desired)

  1. 5

Whip on toppings of your choice. Drizzle chocolate syrup and/or caramel sauce in a spiral over the top scoop (about 1 tablespoon each).

  2. 6

Sprinkle chopped nuts (about 1 tablespoon) and sprinkles (about 1 teaspoon) evenly over the scoop.

  3. 7

Add a dollop of whipped cream (approximately 2 tablespoons) and finish with a maraschino cherry on top.

Serve

  1. 8

Place a napkin around the cup or under the cone to catch drips and hand to the guest immediately so the extra scoop maintains shape. If not serving right away, keep on a chilled surface or return to the freezer briefly, but avoid refreezing melted portions.
