Base Sundae

Method

Assemble Sundae

  1. 1

    Chill serving dish

Place the sundae dish or parfait glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before assembling to keep the ice cream from melting too quickly.

  2. 2

Remove the dish from the freezer and set out the ice cream so it’s slightly softened (about 1–2 minutes at room temperature). This makes scooping smoother and prevents cracking.

  3. 3

    Layer base scoops

Using the ice cream scoop, place three evenly spaced scoops of vanilla ice cream into the chilled sundae dish. Arrange them so they form a stable base (two at the back, one slightly forward).

  4. 4

    Add sauces between scoops

Spoon 1 tablespoon hot fudge over the first scoop, 1 tablespoon hot fudge over the second scoop, and 1 tablespoon hot fudge along the center seam between them. Drizzle the caramel sauce (2 tbs) in a thin ribbon over the front scoop and around edges to create contrast.

  5. 5

    Place the extra scoop

Add the extra scoop of the chosen flavor on top and slightly forward of the base scoops so it sits securely. Gently press into the sauces so it nests without sinking.

  6. 6

    Toppings

Pipe or dollop the whipped cream (approximately 4 tbs) around the top of the sundae and over any gaps. Sprinkle the chopped roasted peanuts (2 tbs) evenly over the whipped cream and drizzle any remaining hot fudge or caramel if desired.

  7. 7

Scatter the mini chocolate chips (1 tbs) across the whipped cream and add optional fresh strawberry slices and crushed waffle cone if using.

  8. 8

    Finish

Place the maraschino cherry on the highest point of the sundae. Give the dish a quick wipe around the rim if needed and serve immediately with the small spoon.

Notes & Variations

  1. 9

Flavor swap: choose the extra scoop in a contrasting flavor (chocolate, strawberry, mint) to add interest. If dietary restrictions require, substitute dairy-free ice cream and whipped topping.

  2. 10

For a colder extra scoop: briefly chill the extra flavor container in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before scooping so it holds shape better on top.

  3. 11

Portion: the recipe yields one large sundae (servings: 1). Adjust quantities proportionally for more servings.
