Cocktail

Method

Prep

1

chill glass and prepare rim

Chill a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes. On a small plate combine the coarse salt (or Tajín) and sugar if using. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the chilled glass and dip the rim into the salt mixture to coat evenly; set aside.

2

If using fresh cucumber ribbons for garnish, slice a thin ribbon from a peeled cucumber using a vegetable peeler and set aside.

Mixing

3

combine ingredients

Add the plata tequila, Grand Marnier 100, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and cucumber tonic syrup into a cocktail shaker.

4

add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Firmly cap and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail properly.

5

double strain

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer. Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small ice shards or cucumber solids.

Finishing

6

Garnish with a lime wheel on the rim or drape a cucumber ribbon inside the glass for aroma and visual appeal. Serve immediately.

7

Optional: for a slightly longer, fizzy version, top with 1–2 oz chilled tonic water instead of double-straining; reduce shaker ice time by a second and gently stir once after topping.
